Witte Raaf
17 September 2017
This is an extra blog post about a really lovely boat we were on a few days ago that we did not mention at the time. Whilst running down to Fig. da Foz. we had passed a fine looking Dutch ketch called Witte Raaf under full sail. We took some pictures of it, and when we got to F da F there she was, so we went over to chat to the owners and give them the pictures.
They were a really delightful couple who invited us onboard for a drink and told us the whole history of their boat from its building in 1954 and all its owners, rebuilds, etc... In sailing terms it is quite a famous boat and we were honoured to have spent a few hours in their company hearing all about this bit of history, and seeing how ingeniously the boat is set up. He sails the boat single-handed while she follows, with the cat, in the camper-van. Their travels have inspired us to explore the 'Mast-up Route' in Holland one of these days...
