Visit to Sintra
22 September 2017 | SIntra, Portugal
Yesterday we took another day trip away from Oeiras to go north by train and bus to Sintra which was a longtime sanctuary for the Portuguese royal family. It is a beautiful forested area studded with amazing coloured villas and palaces. The real challenge was how much we could do in a day and how much we could mentally absorb - the whole place is a feast for the eyes.
We visited the Sintra National Palace, the Moorish Castle and the Pena Palace. The last, Pena Palace, was probably the highlight if we had to choose - the mix of architectural styles is just mind-blowing. Hard to find a single photo to capture the day. (BTW - the system only allows one photo per blog post). I was tempted to post the pic of 2 young (20 something) visitors totally focused on their mobile phones and ignoring the splendour around them but I won't give them that much space on the blog!
