Don't know what you don't know
27 October 2017 | Arrecife, Lanzarote, Canary Islands
When we landed in Lanzarote we had not really done much research (not unusual). First priority was a safe harbour, a shower and a washing machine. Then we got out a map and Trip Advisor and started to think about what we would do with some time here. None of us had been here before and so it was fun to discover together. We are so not disappointed. Lanzarote is great.
Yesterday we took a drive north and started with a visit to the Jameos del Agua not knowing at all what it was. It is a Lava Tunnel (excellent explanation of a Lava Tunnel given by Steve - always bring a geologist on a sailing trip) that has been converted into the most amazing place to visit - underground pools (see today's photo by Kate) , unique crab species, lush gardens, beautiful pool, calm, cool, ... just fab.
Then we drove over to the House of Cesar Manriquie the local artist and architect responsible for the Jameos del Agua and just about everything else on Lanzarote including the layout of the volcano park that we saw 2 days ago. Lovely house - amazing style - yes we will take it please.
And the day finished with a trip to the Playa Famara on the north west coast for a swim. The words 'surf' on the map should have been a clue. And it was a bit if a nudist beach. So three of us (no names) went for a splash in the sea. Very refreshing.
Home, tired, refreshments & supper on board, early to bed. Another tough day.
