15 February 2018 | Five Island Harbour, Antigua
We have had a gap from blogging since returning from Barbados, mainly due to not too much of interest happening (until now!). We kept the boat in Jolly Harbour for a few more days because the wind just continued to howl accompanied by big rain-squalls. Thankfully that has stopped now so we are back to more sensible winds and sunnier weather.
Jolly Harbour was quite a sociable place. We had a fun dinner party for 7 one night with Russ & Ute (Tiarua), Peter and Nicky (Chanto) and Joe (Ciel Rose). The chat was good. As we said on a previous blog post - you are never lonely in this game.
Took a provisioning trip across the island to St John's. This turned out to be a good tour of the island as we took the wrong bus and went many miles further than we intended but no worries.
G's son Duncan and girlfriend KK arrived from Boston (USA, not England) for a few days holiday with us. Lovely to have them aboard. The temperature contrast from Boston must be extreme. We moved yesterday from Jolly harbour up north a bit to Five Island Harbour which is in fact a fairly deserted bay with Robinson Crusoe type deserted beaches and mangroves around the edge. We started on the north side of the bay and walked the beach there but as an anchorage it was a bit exposed so we moved and spent a very settled night anchored behind Maiden Island in a fairly shallow patch using our shallow draught freedom. We have been holding off doing too much exploring of Antigua until D & KK arrived so hopefully our posts over the next few days will provide some Antiguan colour.
Our plan forward is also firming up as we have now booked our boat yard in the Chesapeake for hauling our over the summer and we are starting to buy charts for the path north through the Bahamas.
