Frailes Bay to Bahia de los Muertos

Frailes was a quick stop to rest for the night and get out of the wind as it was blowing about 20 knots on the nose again. We had a quick dinner and called it a night. We headed out for Bahia de los Muertos at 6 am. This is another day sail of about 45 miles. We had been skunked in the fishing department over the last few days of sailing. I was so looking forward to some fresh fish so I could try out my sushi mat and some of the Japanese spices and sauces we had bought from the Asian Market. Well... it was about 11am and we had the 2 poles and the hand-line out cruising at about 6 knots and I was just going down the companionway when I hear one of the poles loose a little line, so I jump back up and no fish. Then I see a fin and the lure gets hit again...no fish, so I grab the pole and wait a few seconds and then I see the fin again and when it hits the lure I set the hook. Next thing I know the fish is peeling the line off the reel. I yell at Pam to stop the motors, reel in the other lines, grab the camera and get my gloves...I'm still losing line!! Next thing I see is about a 152 pound Marlin jump out of the water! (ask Ken about the weight). Now what do I do??? We don't have a fireplace on the boat to put a stuffed Marlin over, there is now way I can land a fish that big and if I did he would probably use his sword to exact some revenge on me and require Pam use up most of the contents of our first aid box. He is still running and I have set the brake as much as I dare and there is only about 100 feet of line left on the reel when he jumps again and spits out the hook. Thank God!! Great story, I didn't lose my lure, I didn't need any stitches and I didn't have to clean a huge fish. Fortunately they had fish tacos on the menu at the restaurant in Bahia de los Muertos.
