We arrived last Tuesday in La Paz and have spent the last week getting the boat repairs done. There is a cruiser's net every morning at 8am on the VHF radio that covers all the marinas and the anchorage. Every morning they cover any news, weather, people needing parts or services. They have a yacht club here that runs the net called Club Cruceros, and they very helpful to all the cruisers. They have a list of all the proven and acceptable service providers in La Paz. So far we have had great success with these leads. So far we have fixed the engine shifting problems and the outboard guy Jimmy tuned up the engines and the run better that they have in years. We have resolved the battery situation and have determined that we are short on charging capacity when we run all the gear and the water-maker over an extended period of time. We will just have to monitor our power consumption if we want to take showers! We have a rigger making new sprit stays for us and they should be ready by Wednesday. We have also fixed several minor issues with the boat and we should be ready to make the crossing to Mazatlan in a few days.
So much for the repairs...Last Thursday we went to the cruisers welcome party a Papa's and Beer by the Marina La Paz. It was lots of fun during the Mariachi band performance a few of the musicians took a liking to Pam and I had to defend her honor (see photo)!!! We had a great time and met some other new cruisers. Friday night we had an "end of the dock" party and met the cruisers located around us. Most have similar plans for the next few weeks which is, stay a few days and then head to the mainland. Saturday La Paz had a parade celebrating "Revolution Day" it was a lot of fun and every entry that came by stopped periodically and gave a demonstration of their skills and job function, very entertaining.
We are going to head over to Espirito Santo tomorrow and spend the night in one of the coves for a change of scenery. We will be having Thanksgiving Dinner back here in the marina with 200 other cruisers at a traditional Thanksgiving Feast the costs 20 pesos ($1.75!). We decided to stay for the dinner as there are Northerly winds predicted for Thursday thru Saturday and we want to wait until they die down before our crossing. That's it for now...by the way, I have been asked to "spice up" my blog updates periodically, well stay tuned....we are heading to a secluded cove tomorrow.
