BEAR IN MY CAMP!

29 June 2010 | Cotton Wood RV/CAMP GROUNDS
RICk 39205
(shot of brown bear 20 feet from my camp!)

I was packing up my bike for the days ride, when I turned around to pick something up and here was this bear not more than 20 feet from me, running past me! it scared the "bajesus" out of me! He just looked at me as he ran towards a spot about 75 feet away where my neighbors caught and cleaned a fish the night before.... He didn't find anything, so he turned and looked right at me and started walking towards me! All I could think about was "SHIT WHERE IS MY CAMERA!" I'm watching him and fumbling for the camera that was burried under all my riding gear. He got within 20 feet and I finally got a pathetic whisle out and ran towards my other neighbors.... a group of girls! I yelled over to them "A bear is heading your way! watch out!"... too late... they were screaming big time! I guess the bear didn't want any part of them, so he came back my way, that's when I was able to get a few photos of him. The camp manger came running down with a shotgun and gave the bear a warning shot in the air...

Note to self: I could hear the girls walking towards my camp at 25 feet, I could NOT hear a big bear RUNNING towards me at 20 feet... stay alert-stay alive... like they used to say in the Army!

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
