ARRIVAL AT GIG HARBOR, WA

06 April 2007 | GIG HARBOR, WASHINGTON
JUNESSA made it to Gig Harbor in one piece!! Yaaa! She'll be on the hard for a week... She'll get some much needed bottom attention on her copper foil skin, a new coat of bottom paint, and new speed transducer and thru-hull.

It rained buckets today and I found only one leak!! I had to pull the liner down and some foam insulation to get at that pesky leak! A little silicone did the trick! NO MORE LEAKS!!! Cha Ching!

I needed to change out the VHF cable in the mast...Another small project that turned into a two day'r.... That little job cost about two hundred buckaroos... Chordless drill, drill bits, hole cutter, snake cable, and a couple six packs! Plus the cable! Some how, the other owners tried to do the same thing and got the cable all tangled up inside the mast. I had to cut a two inch hole in the base of the mast, thread the snake the 45 feet up the mast, tape the cables to it and try to pull the works back down... I could get it to within three feet of the hole, then JAMMED! The bigger hammer trick kept creeping into my mind! Needless to say, I finally beat the mast project and now have a new cable to the VHF radio, so I can really reach out and touch someone!!!

Time to head back out to the Gig and tackle another project.

Check out the map to the right and then click on the google earth... sooo cool! It will take you from outter space to the deck of the boat!

Chow!

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
