Great day to be on the water!

28 September 2008 | Gig Harbor, WA
Rick
Today turned out to be just beautiful!!!
Holly, Chena and I went out for a day sail to soak up some sun. The winds were really crazy, so we ended up drifting around the whirlpools and fishing. We didn't catch anything, but still had fun. I bought burgers for the grill and Holly brought a pea salad. I fired up the grill, plopped the burgers on the grill and promptly ran out of propane... so, we motored back to Gig Harbor to find a propane refill....

Chena did really good on the boat even with her new lifejacket!

The boat worked just awesome! I'm getting more and more confident in her seaworthiness.....

I really need to put the engine covers back on and replace the front engine cover to quite it down below. (I can't wait to get an ELECTRIC MOTOR and scrap this diesel engine!!!) Plus it's about time to get all the pieces/parts back on board to start putting the ceiling back together after the wiring jobs... I'll probably start that tomorrow along with getting the heater back in service-It's down right chilly tonight!!!! brrrrrrrrrr

I downloaded TOUGHER IN ALASKA tv shows on iTunes... They did a really good job at showing the Alaskan Lifestyle... check it out if you get a chance, especially the Fairbanks episode.... working and living in 40 degrees below zero!!! CRAZY!!!! I did that for a few seasons!!! I also watched all the tropical island shows I could on the Travel Channel... I would always daydream of cruising to them some day!!!!

Have a great weekend!

Shirts, Shorts Not required! (unless we're in Alaska, then long-underwear IS REQUIRED!)

Here's a few shots of prepping the boat for the long ride NORTH to Gig Harbor, Wa. It took about 5 hours to prep and load her up.

Here's a few shots of my 1985 28 foot Bristol Channel Cutter (BCC) built in Vancouver, BC. She's a full keel fiberglass hull with teak and mahogany wood throughout. She's powered by a Volvo 28hp diesel.

I had a great day learning how to sail my BCC. The learning curve was a little steeper than I had anticipated. The day ended pretty crappy... I couldn't get the engine out of gear and I plowed into the back side of a large powerboat in the slip next to me. OUCH!

This was the first day on board Junessa. I looked in every corner on board and climbed to the top of the mast! I had Chinese food and Corona Beer then feel asleep to some beautiful candle light and music.
