Easter Soup

20 April 2014 | La Playita, Panama
Easter Eve

Isobel was compelled to make a soup for the Easter Bunny. She spent the entire day peeling, slicing and mixing the soup. And she had lots of vegetables to work on too: well, mostly beets and carrots with a few stalks of celery for variety. Lara had gone shopping in anticipation of our departure. You would think that she had grown up during the depression... Or maybe she can't pass up a good deal.

Next to Isobel you can see the purple package? That is garlic. 220 heads. 22 packs of ten heads... for $13. What a deal! Yet, will they last the next six months? and if so, where will we store them. The 50 pounds of Onions... we do have a couple small bags for onions that we hang from the life lines as we have found that is the way to have them last a long time. Yup, right in the sun, wind and salt spray... So, the rest of the 50 pound bag will be lashed to the stern push-pit.

Now the 25 pounds of carrots will not last... somehow she talked herself down from a 50 pound bag. We just need to find a cool, dark, dry place to keep them... on a boat in the tropics....! ah well. Well, for $6, if some of them go bad, that's OK... and we have already given some of them away. The 25 pounds of beets were another deal....

As for Bill, he figured out the issue he had been having with connecting the HF radio to the new Samsung Laptop. We now have a dedicated PC for running Radio and navigation software, flushed the heat exchanger on the engine... and lost at Uno to the girl.

And for dinner tonight: beet and carrot salad.
