Transmission Done

Well, the Transmission Job is done. Cleaned up and put away. Yesterday I completed the final engine alignment and we tested it out. Engine runs well and it seems the new alignment has made a noticeable difference to vibration… probably something that should be done every 6 months… and like many things is not hard to do, now that I have done it. The new Transmission is also noticeably quieter and engages without a large clunk (this was considered normal with the old ZF/Hurth).
It is remarkable the sense of freedom we have. We can go if we want! We will stay at the dock to do some clean up items and take care of some things that are easier here next to the town… Then, we are back to the out islands.
The photo is of our new transmission sitting on the chart table with a new and an old engine mount. The Transmission is quite small as it has only forward and reverse gears. The engine mounts are adjustable up and down as well as side to side… and this is how the engine alignment is accomplished. I write the size of key bolts so I don’t have to guess and try them. My one complaint with the new Twin Disc TMC60A is that the drain plug is very small and they didn’t allow a large enough cutout in the casting to let you use a socket on it… and barely enough room for a box end wrench (spanner). I guess you can’t have everything!
