On the move again!
05 January 2009 | Zihuatanejo
Our two weeks in Zihuatanejo have just flown by.
Along with Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and our 28th wedding anniversary, we also celebrated New Year's here. Our New Year's Eve festivities included pizza and ice cream (Yes, again! Decadent, isn't it?). After being tossed off of one beach for shooting off some of Jeff's bottle rockets, we found another, more secluded beach and finished lighting the rest. In the town square there was a concert going on, and dancers and basketball players both used the basketball court at the same time without missing a beat.
We made it back to Journey before midnight--just in time to witness the most spectacular fireworks display I've ever seen. From four separate points on the bay (one of which was the beach just off our stern) there were huge blasts of color lighting up the sky. The noise reverberated off the hills like canon fire. Very, very impressive.
So we've had a great time but are starting to feel restless. Jeff spent several hours cleaning our anchor rode and chain off the growth that had accumulated during our stay, and we said good-bye to Zihuatanejo. Of course, we aren't moving very far away....just a few miles north to Isla Grande, an island near the town of Ixtapa. We spent a day on this island earlier in our stay here, and Jeff has hopes of finding some surf.
