We are making a short stop in New Bedford. It's the home of our Edson Steering system and we thought we would take the opportunity to get our steering overhauled at the home factory.
This harbour did have some rough times during Hurricane Irene. There are several docks broken and quite a few dinged boats. Its much in contrast to the trouble free experience we had in Maine.
Our passage south from Portland was extremely pleasant - flat waters with about 10kts of easterly breeze. We arrived at the Cape Cod Canal just before mid-night, when the favorable ebb current started. It's the first time I have gone thru at night - the first bridge seemed a little intimidating - not sure until we were quite close where the bridge supports towers were - but it was straightforward from there once we realized how big the opening under the bridges were.
We very tentatively plan to go to Block Island from here - may be a zoo on labor day weekend - but perhaps Irene hangover will keep some of the boating crowds away.
