Labor day weekend
09/02/2011, Block Island, RI

We arrived at Block Island just as sun set, after a 6hour 8kt downwind ride on the rare easterly from New Bedford.

Edson went way above and beyond the call of duty and our steering system is back to its normal level of perfect feel. New Bedford then closed their hurricane gates because of a very high tide, so we had to wait to 1pm before they reopened and we could get underway. We did not think we would get to Block until after sunset but the winds were idea and we flew along and made it in just in time for a perfect sunset.

We had hoped to pick up one of the CCA buoys, which would give us a shorter dinghy ride, but I suppose that was optimistic for labor day weekend and both were taken. Instead we have anchored in the back ranks and will think about where we want to reposition tomorrow morning.

I can't believe that for all these years I have longed to see Hawk in an achorage field where we were, and you were there. We could not have been anchored too far from you, sipping wine and watching the sunset. We left to join friends at Napa Tree early on the 3rd.
