Onwards towards Sydney
We left Bermagui at 8am Tuesday, after a trawler ventured out. Sure enough, the wind calmed and then swung around to the west, which made for comfortable sailing under genoa. (In fact, we're starting to wonder what the mainsail is for) The coastline was absolutely georgeous, with brilliant blue water and rugged headlands with surf breaking on rocks (which we passed repectfully a mile or two out). The big excitement for the morning was catching a small tuna on a trolling line. There was blood all over the aft deck, but we managed to get it on board, kill it and fillet it. As I type, this Burney is preparing some fish for lunch, and it smells delicious already!
The night passed uneventfully under sail, although the wind was blowing at 20 - 30 knots straight off the southern snowfields and several warm layers of clothing covered by an oilskin were essential. Initially, the idea was to stop at Woolongong and then wait out a northerly, but instead we are pushing on under motor against a light breeze and with a rolling ocean swell behind us. We hope to reach Botany Bay by early evening, in time for a quiet beer.
