Tuesday August 9, storm past us

Being in a building during a storm is a whole lot different than the boat. With the boat you feel every change and nuance in wind, rain and sea. Unless the wind blows really hard or there is lots of rain.... I can't tell didly of what is going on out there. Neither can Tom, so he was out most of the night, walking docks, securing the gates open when the power went out, but mostly checking our 'boats' to make sure all lines and fenders were doing their jobs.
This morning it's overcast, and blustery, with occasional showers. The temp and humidity are down so we've got the AC off and the patio door and front doors open for some flow through 'free' air. It's nice for a change.... Shhhh don't tell Mom, but I do feel it getting warmer and more humid. I think if the wind continues, she'll be ok with the doors being opened!
As I wasn't 'in' the storm, according to Tom we had a couple of inches of rain and 30 or so knots of wind. The power went out 3 times - the whole town a time or two, but short lived. All in all it was exactly the type of storm we like. It was lots of hard work for Tom as I wasn't able to get down to the boats with him. He worked several long days getting things all ready so he could relax a bit. Luckily, Scott , SV Scott Free "B", is here, waiting for the freighter to come in to pick up his boat. He was able to help with some of the bigger awnings and lines. Thanks Scott!
So last night after my rolling around in the kitchen, I pulled off dinner almost all by myself:
Pork tenderloin with SW seasoning - pan seared and finished in the oven, sweet potatoes with a maple syrup/ vinegar glaze and dukkah for some texture and flavoring, steamed broccoli and for dessert, blueberry, pineapple and mango crisp! I also roasted some peppers for possible bacon, lettuce, roasted pepper and goat cheese sandwiches maybe later today! It fell good to be back in the kitchen...playing and creating, and to know that I can do it. The crutches are pain in the kitchen - they're only good for going to and from.
I really miss that I can't hold hands with my sweetie while we're walking!
Now for the pool.... Looks like tomorrow I'm gonna get wet!

The boat came from the factory with just a two sided ice box. With the fact that it was almost 9 square feet we felt that we could add some additional insulation and not compromise the needed space.
