01/30/2011, Seattle Boat Show

Well...the great seattle boat show has come and gone!! From all of the vendors that I spoke with, it would have to be considered a huge success!! I dont know if the expectations were low, or some small segment of the boating economy has made a strong up-turn. Many of the vendors that we worked with, on a variety of things were either very low on product or just plain sold out.

Jeanne and I really had very few things that we were needing to find, with a couple of additional fun things to look at. All of the above we taken care of, at what we feel were very well priced. There are a couple of things that will have to be shipped, due to low inventorys or our particular special needs!

One the high lights of this show was a chance to spend some time with Rich Boren, off of SV Third day. If you have not been reading some of our earlier posts, rich and his Family live on their boat down in Mexico, so he was an exceptional source of information for us regarding our trip into Mexico, as well as some stops along the way!!

Rich (in the picture above) was at the boat show marketing his watermaker that he designed!! From all of his reports, the boat show WAY exceed his goals!!

We mananged to spend all or part of 5 days at this years show!! we are tired but feel that it was certainly worth it!!

They're taking me to Marakesh!!

What a scurvy bunch of pirates! (wish I could have been there!)
Time is short....
Tom....
01/28/2011, Des Moines Marina

Ok, I guess it is time to make this official!! Since I have 45 days of work left, Jeanne has like...I don't know 10 or 12 actual work days!! We have set a date to celebrate our "cutting the dock lines" as of April 16th, so there is no going back now!! Not that there is any thought of changing our minds or anything silly like that!! We have reserved the guest dock area in Des Moines Marina...Check, we have arranged for a keg of beer...Check, all our friends and family have been invited...Check We have wrapped up all of our last minute purchases from the Boat Show!!...Check I guess there is nothing left to do but finish out our days at work, clean up a few loose ends on the boat, see the cars and get out of here.

But wait!!! I am getting ahead of myself...it's this work thing!! I still have to keep doing it!! I have promised myself that I would do everything in my power to not have a "short timers" problem.....I really am trying, but it is getting hard!! The boat show going on right now is even making it harder!! All the cool people, and all the cool things about boating to look at, and talk about. All of our friends knowing that the time is getting closer so we talk about it more....argh

OH well....I guess I better get off the computer and go back to work!

If you happen to be around on April 16th, drop by the Des Moines Marina guest dock and have a beer...and celebrate with us!!

Friday Night at the Boat Show
Tom
01/27/2011, Down town Seattle

Friday night at the boat show and we are done shopping already. Our wallet is a little lighter than before last week, but there was only a small sucking vaccum as the funds went out this year!

the cool thing about Friday night is that our Portland (Oregon) friends are all coming to town! They ride the Amtrack train up early enough to do the "Boats a float" portion of the show, saving the big indoor show for Saturday!! We have cooked up a few suprises for them this year!! Friday night we will all ride the SLUT ( Ok as much as i wanted to leave it right there, is the South Lake Union Trolly) down to the Marakesh Morrocan restaraunt for dinner and belly dancers. The evening will be capped off by a stop at Jillian's for some arcade gameing!!

After the show on Saturday, or at least at 5:00 we are meeting up with all the members of The Brethern at Pyramid Ale House and then off to dinner!!

I will post more later!!

The picture above is of the good looking part of our Portland friends at the lats and Atts party last summer

I'm so glad you pointed out that that pic was taken last summer! We have had cold, cloudy weather here in La Paz and when I saw you all in sun and tank tops I thought "why didn't we go to the Boat Show!"

I particularly like the lady in black on the far left

Hey Dave, I did not mean to leave marcia out of my note...it was just the only picture I had of all the ladys from the Anacortes Party. That is a pretty good lookin group of ladies!!

Terry & Heidi...as cold as it has been, this week warmed up nicely!! high 50's and even a low 60 in there!! But something makes me think that your cloudy day in La Paz is not quite yet that cold?
Boat show seminar!!
Tom
01/23/2011, Seattle

Our friends Marty and Deborah hosted a seminar on developing, maintaining and perfecting (yeah right) a boat blog. They did an awesome job, and despite having hosted this blog for over a year now, we learned a lot!!

I guess you could say they are experts because they own and do all the writing for Three sheets NW. I call it an online boaters magazine for the PNW.

http://threesheetsnw.com/

So now you have to keep checking back to see if we really did learn anything!!

Seattle Boat Show
Tom
01/23/2011, Seattle..of course

As every dye is the wool boater knows..the boat show is a Nirvana like experience!! Anything you have ever wanted, dreamed about or even remotely considered is there!! This year, we are really just wrapping up a few loose ends, so it is to some degree as much a social affair as anything! Don't get me wrong, we have gotten a bunch done!! tracked down some Canadian info for our trip that way this summer, found the controller for our solar powered water heater. We resolved what new battery's will go into Eagle in the next month or two. We arranged to get our boat survey done in March. Contacted a company about the new insurance policy for taking Eagle off shore, and to Mexico.

We also ran into an amazing amount of friends! At the end of Saturdays show, we were there Friday evening as well, Jeanne and I discussed how blessed we were to have as many great friends. There is no doubt that the boating community is a close knitted group, and our eminent departure has only brought many of them that much closer. A huge treat for us was to finally get to meet Rich Boren. Rich and his family have been cruising in Mexico for a couple of years, and keep a very well written, detail blog http://www.sailblogs.com/member/svthirdday/ about their experiences in Mexico. We had several opportunities to visit with Marty & Deborah, the owners for Three Sheets NW. http://threesheetsnw.com/ They were owners of a Freeport as well, and have posted several of the stories that Jeanne and I have written. They feature our blog posts every now and then as swell. There were yacht club friends, other Freeport owners, old dock mates from Shilshole, and of course the Brethren crowd. Just a lot of great people!!

The picture above is our buddy Dave "the music man" Calhoun playing on opening day!!

We will be making several more trips to the boat show so I will update you as things progress!!

01/23/2011 | Julie and Ken Dausman
We went to the show on Friday. I couldn't believe how busy it was! Several vendors were noticeable missing though.

Ken and I would love to learn more about your solar water heater!
01/23/2011 | Jeanne Walker
As soon as i get the volatge controller in place,m and have an idea of how well it works, i will pass the info along. still is the "design" phase LOL

Great seeing you both last week!!
