Join Jeanne and Tom now that we have prepared our Freeport Islander SV Eagle to sail on an adventure from the PNW to smaller latitudes.
The Party is over...
Tom
08/14/2011, Friday harbor

Just a quick note to let every one know we survived the L & A Party!! We got to see a bunch of great friends, and truely had a blast.

We got a couple of boat projects done while we were at a dock.

We leave this morning back to Wescott for a night or two, and then out the straight to Port Angeles. We hope to be in Neah bay by Thursday.

If I can Pyrate some wi-fi in the bay I will try to write a bunch more and post a lot of pictures

Xcellent Crabbing....
Tom
08/06/2011, Wescott Bay

We caught up with Pam & Tim on Savarna, and Rocky & Renaye on Euphoria in Wescott bay. Lots of crabs! lots of fun, and lots of catching up.

We had a night of Farkle, and then Tim & Pam taught us "Tonk" a card game. I like Farkle better, but they wont play anymore 'cuz I keep winning!!

Jeanne and Pam took the dodger apart and replaced one of the front glass panels, that had gotten a small crack in it where the traveler sheet passed through. They did an awesome job!!

Hey Tom! How did you get those guys to line up like that?

Probably threatened them with his 3 wood.
Interview With A Cruiser Project
Tom
08/03/2011, On Eagle

Many of you following along might have read about the "Interview With A Cruiser Project that was started by Livia from SV Estrellita 5.10b. The interviewees are cruisers who have cruised outside of their home country for more than 2 years. They could be still cruising or have completed their cruise. The interviewees are not in any way selected randomly but this is not a closed pool. Anyone may suggest themselves or a friend for an interview. They have started a new segment called "Newly Salted, and we were picked to be interviewed. You can find their origional site at http://interviewwithacruiser.blogspot.com/p/about-project.html and the Newly salted interview at http://newlysalted.blogspot.com/2011/07/eagle-at-3-months.html

Our friends at Three Sheets NW have also done a follow up on our adventure on their web site that recently just posted and you can find that interview at http://threesheetsnw.com/blog/archives/18170

So as yo ucan see, we are being well documented along the way....

An Octopus Comes for dinner
Tom
08/03/2011, Snor Cove

We have been having marginal success at best in our crabbing efforts this summer. There are virtually none in the Desolation Sound area, so we really have just started now that we are back in the San Juan's. That is not to say we haven't caught a bunch of crabs, but I am pretty sure I keep dropping my pots right next to the sorority house, 'cus we have caught a bunch of females. The biggest surprise came when we pulled the pot that was in the entrance to Snore Cove at Sucia Island. As I was pulling it, I told Jeanne we must have a bunch because the pot was heavier than normal. When we got it to the surface, the pot was engulfed by an octopus, over 4 feet across. He, or she as the case may be was huge! It had gotten a hold of one of the crabs in the pot, a female to no surprise and was trying to eat it right thru the side of the pot. Jeanne managed to get her camera out of the dry bag and get a couple of pictures as you can see. This is actually our second Octopus of the year as we got a small one with Kevin from MV Andante in a shrimp pot outside of Laura Cove in the Desolation Sound area. So far the count is two Octopus, and four crabs,,,humm not great numbers!

That is just wild! We've never caught an Octopus -- did he eventually just let go or how did you get him off of there?

We nearly limited out last week off the south shore of Reid Harbor on Stuart Island. 3 pots with 3 sets of an hour each got 10 large males, dinner for 9 adults at the dock. Raw chicken breasts for bait.

Actually, he was in a pretty big hurry to get off of the the pot! Tom kept him tipped up long enough for me to get the camera out of the dry bag and fire off a couple photos... then gone! He was BIG!
Moving Again
Tom
07/22/2011, going north

We will be pulling the anchor tomorrow morning, and head towards Jones Island. Or...maybe Matia Island......or Patos Island. Not matter which, we will be out of normal wi-fi range until we get back to friday Harbor on the 12th.

I will try to continue to post via the SSB, so every one will know what
is happening, especially once the Sucia Party begins!!

I sure do hope the sun comes out for an extended period of time...
