We made the short trip from Concarneau to Belon in around two hours, about half under sail until the wind died. The Belon and Aven rivers converge at Port Manec'h, which is a beautiful little town with high cliffs and pretty summer homes. There were a few boats at anchor and, since it was calm, I should have joined them.
We cleared the sandbar at half tide and went up the Belon River to the main mooring area. The river is lined with fore and aft moorings to keep boats steady in the strong tidal currents. The two big visitor mooring balls were taken, so we rafted alongside a french boat whose occupants were somewhat grumpy and never got off the boat. As a result, we enjoyed the beautiful day in silence.
The famous seafood restaurant, Chez Jackie, where we have eaten in the past, was closed for Bastille Day. Other than that, there is a Creperie on the opposite bank of the river and no stores. We hiked along the well marked trails along the river and explored up and down in the dinghy, before purchasing a dinner of oysters, bread and butter at the Chateau Belon.
