Visiting Ruth and Scotty Vickers
26 February 2012 | New Smyrna Beach, Florida
Rainy today
After leaving the sub pens, we spent the next night in St. Augustine at a mooring ball. It poured rain as we dinghyed to the harbour office, then a refreshing shower. Back to the boat for a quick bite to eat then to bed after a long day of 68 miles. This city has so much history we hated to leave, but we had to make the 7:30 am bridge opening. We are on a mission. The skipper decided we couldn’t, make it to New Smyrna Beach in one day so we stopped at noon and anchored in an abandoned cement plant. This left a 35 mile run to NS Beach. The temperature reached 88 F as we passed Daytona, with the winds gusting to 30 Knots. The bridges close at 35 and we had 3 bridges to clear to get to our marina. No problems – tied up at 12:30. We spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Ruth and Scotty Vickers. Wonderful hosts. Toured us to get food, beer and propane, fed us – entertained us royally. What can we say – but thanks. We have spent the better part of 2 days wondering around an art show with over 300 booths, across from the marina.
