Exploring Jekyll Island

Bob and I toured Jekyll island on bikes. We visited the historical area and museum. They have a wonderful museum which gives you the history of the islands development as a private club for the wealthiest industrialists of the era, who purchased it for the total sum of $125,000. They built a hotel which was the center of their social scene, and then each family had their own private residences, which they called cottages (10000 sq ft), of which a few remain today. Some of the families were Cranes, Moss, Rockefeller,Goodyear, Gould and there were many others; about 100 members total. We also visited the Turtle Research Center, but did not have time for an extensive tour. Something to do on our next visit. The Jekyll Harbor Marina was a great place to stay.
