Homestead agriculture.

22 October 2011
Once tiny homesteads dotted the few spots on the islands where clearing the forest revealed a valley floor with some real soil. Generally these same spots were lived in by the First Nation peoples of the area. After contact with Europeans they quickly died off or moved to more remote areas as disease and culture conflict took its toll. This pretty apple orchard nests in a slim valley where a creek runs out to the sea. No homestead exists. Only the orchard. At the mouth of the creek is a shell mound, evidence of an earlier time.
