Covered in spider webs

26 June 2013 | Hunter Bay, Lopez Island, WA
Roy / Cloudy and cool with morning rain
"When we finish a walk through the forest, we're always covered in spider webs." Makes your skin crawl, doesn't it? What's ON those webs, anyway? Just because we can't see them, doesn't mean they're not covered with yucky spider muck, left over fly parts, and whatnot. Oh, I hope I haven't freaked any of you nature hike lovers out there. That's okay. It's all organic, right?

Roll 'em up

26 June 2013 | Rosario Resort, Orcas Island, WA
Roy / Windy and cool
"If you're going to roll up the cuffs of your jeans, go ahead, ROLL THE DANGED THINGS UP!" It doesn't do ANY good if you don't roll them up enough. I know this from personal experience, having moved upward from the bottom of the learning curve getting into my dinghy from the beach. Just half an inch too little and your whole pant leg from the knee down gets wet anyway.

Rowing is no way to go through life

26 June 2013 | Hunter Bay, Lopez Island, WA
Roy / Cloudy and cool with morning rain
"Rowing is no way to go through life." It's backwards. You always see where you've been, but can't see where you're going without getting a crick in your neck. Then again, I've heard much sage advice that tells us we should just concentrate on where we ARE in life. "Live in the moment," they say. Okay, I'll buy that, but I still look over my shoulder once in a while to make sure I'm not going to run into something, and I ALWAYS face forward when I'm driving a car!

Mosquitos don't bite

26 June 2013 | Hunter Bay, Lopez Island, WA
Roy / Cloudy and cool with morning rain
There's little to share about Hunter Bay, so I'll add to my miscellaneous ramblings which, I've just decided, deserve a blog classification all their own: Mabrouka's Aphorisms. I'll blame them on Mabrouka so that those of you who think they're just downright S-T-U-P-I-D won't think less of me.

"Mosquitos don't bite." Right? They don't. They suck, ...literally and figuratively, they suck, but they don't bite. You always say you have a mosquito bite because it would just be plain weird to tell people you had a mosquito puncture. Nevertheless, mosquitos DO bite, ...figuratively.
Vessel Name: Mabrouka
Vessel Make/Model: CT-41
Hailing Port: Seattle, WA
Crew: Roy Neyman
About:
Mabrouka and I have been partners in crime since October 1998, hanging about in West Coast waters, first in San Diego, then in Seattle. All of that time we've lived together aboard. [...]
Extra:
I've called this blog "Blessed Lady" because that's my preferred translation from Arabic for "Mabrouka". She's a 1980 CT-41, one of several clones of the original Bill Garden design Mariner ketches. At 50 feet from the tip of her mizzen boom to the tip of her bow sprit, she's 16 tons of [...]

Elvis the stuffed cat is a memento of my daughters at the age of about 5. The peace sign was a gift from good friend, Karyn Borcich. Thanks to both!
This is Swan as I knew him, though in a more rugged environment than we ever shared. We usually met at the coffee shop or at Voula
This is of Swan as I would also like to have known him, ...cigarettes, cameras and wine.

I never went fishing with Steve, although he let me try out his fly casting rig in the river by his house during one of the company picnics he hosted. I
