10/30/2009, CAROLINA INLET
Donna and Pete are from Perry Sound. Their son Miguel who had already cought a few blues todays stayed aboard thier boat GALINA waiting for the "big one". Unfortunately they left their two border collies onboard to deal with the "big one" when it arrived.
We talked Gravenhurst, Orillia, Sudbury, Barrie, Foots Bay the Park and 27 North. It was a lot of fun to meet them and hope that we see them soon on our way to the Bahamas. They departed from Windsor Ontario just a week before we left Maine so they are making some very big sails daily to the South!

10/30/2009, Indian Creek Reunion
On Oct. 20th we met with four of six people with whom we sailed on our '07 - '08 trip. Joy and Rusty on Slow Dancin and Cathie and Tom on Interlude, Barbara and Dave on Fortunate we saw two days later. These wonderful friends invited us along and transformed our entire experience of cruising. It was such fun to be among helpful and caring people and we became fast friends. Tom and Cathie (the missing person taking the photo) are the only two repeating the cruise south this year and start their trek south on Nov. 5th, we look forward to crossing paths with them. In the photo are two new friends, Cathy and Dave on Orion who are going south as they always do.
We are shown at a gathering organized by Joy and Rusty in their home built by, who else, Tom. So you see, we are among good friends. Thank you Joy and Rusty, Cathie and Tom. By the way, this entry is a little late because our photo did not come out and Cathie sent her hers.
Where's da Bubba (Gary)? We missed his smile. Oh yes, he moved to Florida. He was a special part of the cruise and was on Slow Dancin part of the way.

10/28/2009, Camp Lejeune NC
Today we left Beaufort in torrential rain and desided to go on the inside (ICW) as opposed to the outside (Atlantic Ocean). The wind was 15 to 20 right on the nose and that would be less fun outside.
The ICW goes through Camp Lejeune, a huge Marine base. Maneuvers were being held on both sides, but no live fire. Fortunately we could pass through. Tomorrow, however, there will be live fire across the ICW and we would be held up until possibly Nov. 1. This is not unusual but this time it will also be with the Navy and they will be looking for unexploded ordinances and so it may well mean no passage for days.
It seemed that they used our mast as a turning marker.

Can't believe how much has happened since I've read this blog only a week ago... It always sounds so glamorous- "off sailing to the carribean for eight months" - but the reality of the work and responsibility is HUGE! I have great admiration for both of you and the other sailors you're crossing paths with. Wish I could have joined you guys with Chipper and John.
Love,
Jess
