BLESSED SPIRIT 2009
Heading South from Maine in Sept. '09 to return tp Miane from the Bahamas in the Summer of 2010.
A LESSON IN ANCHORING
CT
11/02/2009, SOUTHPORT NC

We arrived in Southport and Claude and Wendy (WEND) another passport 47 opened up their new home and gave us the all important Seamus Fix. Seamus, their border terrier, is almost the reason that we trek south. (see a few picture from the last trip!). We will post another, but first Claude gave us a lesson on anchoring in difficult conditions which I must share.

He says that this got him out of bad situations, protected the boat and helped keep the boat from rolling. Sounded good to us so we grabbed the sheets and here they are. Now if we can only remember which edge of the paper the wind is coming from; and which edge, the seas!

Their house is fantastic!! What a great design and super job. Nice to be young. Hope to see them on the water soon. Claude and Wendy helped give us the courage a few years ago to lose the dock.

Tomorrow a few pictures of Shamus, we promise.

Donna and Pete are from Perry Sound. Their son Miguel who had already cought a few blues todays stayed aboard thier boat GALINA waiting for the "big one". Unfortunately they left their two border collies onboard to deal with the "big one" when it arrived.

We talked Gravenhurst, Orillia, Sudbury, Barrie, Foots Bay the Park and 27 North. It was a lot of fun to meet them and hope that we see them soon on our way to the Bahamas. They departed from Windsor Ontario just a week before we left Maine so they are making some very big sails daily to the South!

Hi-Cathy and Tom Dunn told us we should meet you guys. We are also from Edgecomb, and keep our boat at our house on the Sheepscott during the summer. We are just ahead of you, now in Brunswick GA but plan a 5 day stop in Jacksonville to visit family. Would love to get together somewhere. We are planning to cross from Lake Worth to the Abacos in late November and then head south to the out islands quickly. We may go as far as the Turks and Caicos before starting north. Would like to visit the Jumentos if we have time. Sail safe. Check out our sailblog when you have time.

On Oct. 20th we met with four of six people with whom we sailed on our '07 - '08 trip. Joy and Rusty on Slow Dancin and Cathie and Tom on Interlude, Barbara and Dave on Fortunate we saw two days later. These wonderful friends invited us along and transformed our entire experience of cruising. It was such fun to be among helpful and caring people and we became fast friends. Tom and Cathie (the missing person taking the photo) are the only two repeating the cruise south this year and start their trek south on Nov. 5th, we look forward to crossing paths with them. In the photo are two new friends, Cathy and Dave on Orion who are going south as they always do.

We are shown at a gathering organized by Joy and Rusty in their home built by, who else, Tom. So you see, we are among good friends. Thank you Joy and Rusty, Cathie and Tom. By the way, this entry is a little late because our photo did not come out and Cathie sent her hers.

Where's da Bubba (Gary)? We missed his smile. Oh yes, he moved to Florida. He was a special part of the cruise and was on Slow Dancin part of the way.
