Sometimes DOLPHINS are confused with PORPOISES.
An easy way to remember the difference, is that Dolphins have Beaks and Porpoises look like whales (without Beaks). D and B are close together in the alphebet.
Here, Tita reached down in hopes of touching a dolphin. When she put her hand low by the rail and a dolphin leaped, she could just about touch them. Joy, bliss, one with nature! This is cruising at its best.

It was way cool.
First they came up to the cockpit to let us know they were all there and wanted to play in our bow wave. We always look for dolphins but ususally only see their fin arching out of the water with the tail following in. This time they came to us and they wanted to play.
So we put the boat on Auto Pilot and went to the bow for about 20 minutes. (some times they would go back aft, but would quicly come back to where we were hanging over the rail)
We took so many shots we lost count. Most of them pretty great. Today is a 3 blog day so that you all can see more than one.
There is no doubt they are social beings. They would tip their heads and look at us. And...There is sooo much touching going on between the 10 of them.
It was very much a spiritual experience and we seemed a part of a very loving, very friendly group of beings.
all this was happening the day we went off shore to Charleston. The night sail was devine with a full moon at our stern shining on a beautiful, soft and undulating sea. The moon stayed with us the entire night until we were greeted by the sun's light as we slid into our marina at 0700.

11/02/2009, SOUTHPORT NC
We arrived in Southport and Claude and Wendy (WEND) another passport 47 opened up their new home and gave us the all important Seamus Fix. Seamus, their border terrier, is almost the reason that we trek south. (see a few picture from the last trip!). We will post another, but first Claude gave us a lesson on anchoring in difficult conditions which I must share.
He says that this got him out of bad situations, protected the boat and helped keep the boat from rolling. Sounded good to us so we grabbed the sheets and here they are. Now if we can only remember which edge of the paper the wind is coming from; and which edge, the seas!
Their house is fantastic!! What a great design and super job. Nice to be young. Hope to see them on the water soon. Claude and Wendy helped give us the courage a few years ago to lose the dock.
Tomorrow a few pictures of Shamus, we promise.
