Tonawanda NY
08 September 2010 | entrance to the Erie Canal
Capt. Dean, cloudy and cool
Well, this is the Black Rock Canal Lock, not part of the Erie Canal, but about 3 miles before it.
Well we made it to the entrance of the Erie Canal after a stop in Buffalo. We shot across to Buffalo on monday, Labor Day and we were glad we did!! The wind blew again for a couple days since then.
We got into Buffalo and grabbed a slip in the RCR Yacht Club for the night, then the next day we unstepped the mast, all went well with that. They had 4 guys helping, 3 on the deck and a crane operator, all were very nice, talkative and informative too. I was able to use 2 pre-built racks someone else had left behind, several people actually, as the frame has a couple boat names, dates
and directions on them, I will do the same. So we got the job done, $277.00 dollars later, not bad really, it is about that at home, and these guys even helped install the racks and secure the mast for the trip.
See the Pictures of the framework in the gallery.
So now we are in Tonawanda NY. for a second night, we are really relaxing with the Lakes behind us!!
It blew up a hellova storm last night with 50kt. winds, pea sized hail and extreme downpour for about an hour, we were sssoooooooo glad to be tied up in the little narrow channel in the entrance of the Erie Canal, we are at the public wall, with facilities and some wifi.
Speaking of wifi, we hope to be adding some kind of antenna as soon as we can, so we can post more often.
I am typing this on my notepad and will try to copy and past it to the blog, so I don't have anothermelt down, when the 6 paragraphs fail to load.
Later, Dean
headed for Lockport in the am.
