Cape Henlopen to Atlantic City NJ
01 May 2016 | Atlantic City, NJ
Cold, lousy, gray 50s
We left a little uncertain of the conditions, but we crossed Delaware bay, dodged a few ships and as we passed the opening for Cape May harbor, felt good about the weather as we had wind in the jib and the centerboard stabilizing the boat in the 5 foot seas. As we trudged north the wind decided to go on the nose, and the seas built some, so it became a bang into the weather day, with barely 5 knots of boat speed. We finally got to Atlantic City 45 miles later, very tired and wet. Got Fuel and decided we deserved a dock and the state Marina at the Golden Nuggett. Took a nice shower and walked around the casino. Had some Chinese food there. I guess Trump had owned this place at one point, it went broke, he was trying to sell it for 300 million, when it finally sold a couple of years ago it went for only 35 million! WE were tired from the daily motoring and decided to stay an extra day here. The next morning went to the Starbucks in the casino. Then took a bus over to the famous boardwalk. they dropped us off at another trump place, the Taj Mahal, this one looked like it was doing better, but overall AC is a seedy ghetto looking place, with a lot of huge casinos boarded up, with the skyscraper hotels attached boarded up as well. The boardwalk is an interesting phenomenon, one that should be seen I guess. Its very popular in the summer and the beach is pretty nice...everyone looks like they could be actors from the show "married with children" with the Bundy family. As we looked out over the ocean, it looked like things were calming down so we decided to make a run for it that afternoon.
