I will be participating in the Big Climb on March 25th. The Big Climb is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Washington/Alaska Chapter's largest fundraiser. All proceeds go towards LLS' mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

Life is good! I'm filled with bliss spending time at our beautiful home, being outside in the wind and water or on a nearby mountain top, being surrounded by first-class friends and famiy, or being all by myself in stillness. Now...after a surprise one week snow break, I'm ready to get back into the classroom and be with my wonderful first graders!

01/18/2012, Overlooking Puget Sound
Impending clouds loomed over the Puget Sound horizon and inched closer as we explored the 2 miles of protected tidal beaches of Discovery Park, the largest park in Seattle. Discovery Park is 354 acres of beach, meadow lands, sea cliffs, forest groves, sand dunes, thickets and streams on Magnolia Bluff north of downtown Seattle. Kevin and I took an afternoon trip with our good friend Bill and his kids down the parks loop trail towards South Beach and the West Point Lighthouse.

We discussed whether we thought the coulds towards Alki beach and Bainbridge Island were bringing rain or snow.

We walked towards West Point, looking for sea glass and admiring the colors of the afternoon.

On the way back up the trail to the car, our argument was settled...the clouds that loomed across the sound were snow clouds and were now dusting our hats and jackets through the bare trees.

Kevin and I both had the last week off. We got a lot done around the house and took off for some one-day adventures close to home. The weather was wet and we found some snow! Kevin and I helped clear a large log from the trail and I saw my first avalanche on the way up to Lake Serene near Index.

We hiked up to Lake 22 near Mt. Pilchuck in a hail and thunderstorm.

Through the mist, we could see the lakes that give Seattle all it's drinking water from the viewpoint at Rattlesnake Ledge.
