8-11 MELDRUM BAY

15 August 2015
Barbara
8-11 MELDRUM BAY: We left Gore Bay at 9:30 in the rain and under dark rolling clouds. The rain only lasted half hour, but the dark rolling clouds lasted most of the day. We were headed west and the wind was out of the North West. We were able to put the head sail up, but it was a rough and bumpy ride into 10-15kn. winds. We pulled into Meldrum Bay at 3:30, six hours of wind, clouds, and waves. We were both glad to be done with that trip. Meldrum Bay is a very small community. It consists of one marina, one restaurant/inn, and one general store that is closed. There is no internet and no cell phone service. There are three other cruisers here and we make plans with VOYAGEUR to go to dinner at 7:30. Supposedly the dinners are exceptional. In the meantime I do two loads of laundry. I am trying to use up the last of my Canadian coins and the laundry is cheap here. When I am done, I have $5.50 Canadian left. I am not sure, but I think I washed a clean set of sheets. I have lost track of time and inventory. Dinner was good, but not exceptional, dessert was the best part. I did however, greatly enjoy the company of Joe and Karen. We spent a couple of hours talking and comparing boating stories. It was a lot of fun. Meldrum Bay is our last port in Canada. Tomorrow we enter USA waters and will have to check in with customs. The pic today is us coming out of De Tour Passage. We are officially leaving the North Channel and entering Lake Huron.
