8-15 Mackinac Island: We had a light breakfast and started our sightseeing about 9:30. We had a walking guide to the historical island. We worked our way west and saw churches and missions and a Butterfly house. Next we went back to the boat for lunch and a nap. Next we went to a coffee shop to use the internet. Next we walked our way west and saw an art museum, historic homes, blacksmith and did lots of shopping. We were back at the boat by 6:30. There was much more to see, but by then we were too hot and tired to care. We skyped with Emma, had dinner, then skyped with Nan, then skyped with Tim and Linzee. By then it was 10pm and time for bed. Taps are played every night at 10, and Reveille is played every morning at 9:30am. The island strives to keep its heritage by not allowing any motorized vehicles on the island. All transportation is by horse, horse and carriage, horse and cart, and bicycles. It was a hot day and the air had that musty smell of sweating horse and rotting manure. Because of all the horses, there are horse droppings everywhere. It paid to watch where you put your feet.
