Yesterday, (Monday 11/23) we entered the gulf stream at 9:30 am. It proceded to knock us around and spit us out on the other side about 3 1/2 hours later. We average 10.5 knots with a max of 15.5 over the course of the 40 mile crossing. It is crazy when sailing at 9 knots now seems slow! The wind was blowing 23-25 out of the north which contradicted the northerly push of the gulf stream causing the confused and big waves to break around us and spray to crash over the cabin top. We continued with a windy and rough, but very fast sail through the Northwest Providence Channel around the East side of the Berry Islands. Around supper time we had 3 reefs in the main and a reefed trysail and still cruising along at 9-10 knots. Feeling like we needed a little respite from the wind and waves, we anchored at Chub Cay at around 3 am and fell into a deep, and well deserved sleep. After what felt like 13 seconds, we woke to pancakes and fresh coffee made by Kirsten and James. Happy crew! Our next destination is New Providence, Nassau where some of our crew will be jumping ship. Onward we go!
