Winds are still pretty light, so the guys put the spinnaker back up (only added about 1mph to their speed, ugh!). Still angling south the pick up the trade winds, but they're all well rested, relaxed, and doing great.
Justin found himself an amazing souvenir that he might not have seen if they'd been scooting along any faster -- here's John's story:
The Green Glass Ball:
Things had gotten just a bit, well,,,,,,boring out here. The same view of the same fabulous blue color of the Pacific.
Eleven more days of nothing but the same??? Ok we can get through this.
We were all up and the wind wasn't. So we get the spinnaker out to get some forward momentum. After it was up and set and a good muggy sweat was on.....(had to deploy twice cuz it was twisted), we gained about a mile an hour.
Well that would be 24 more miles in a day right? So its up and we are really charging along at 6 instead of 5 miles an hour and Justin shouts out "GLASS BALL!!" ( ya think he might want to go try to get it???) We all did of course.
Dad kept an eye on it as we passed like an MOB (man overboard). I dashed up on deck and doused the spinnaker in record time. (it should be a rodeo event)
Justin was at the helm started the engine and the chase was on! Now its a good thing that the winds were light. There wasn't time to bring down the main (after all there was treasure to be had)!
After half a dozen attempts of trying to just grab it I finally found the net in one of the lazeretts then two passes latter we had our prize!
It is about 14" in diameter and had not only a bunch of goose neck barnacles but a few crabs to boot. Actually, once we (Justin) got to cleaning it up he found that the larger crabs had propagated quite well thank you and had quite the little colony on that piece of ocean trash.......treasure.

Winds died down last night - the Gallivant motored a bit south to catch up with the trade winds, and is under sail again.
Sounds like they guys have settled into their watches and a routine of sail-fix&repair-eat-sleep-sail again. under 1700 miles to Hilo now!

We are fishing right now; Justin had some really good hits so we decided to get a little more serious about it. We changed up the sail plan and are going slower and have a marlin jig out there just for fun.
The day started off gray, but now it is full sun and very warm! Got a little sun and now am retreating to what shade we have.
So we are moving S L O W but the wind should pick back up by tomorrow!

(Jenni here... John called to check in while I was 1200' above Napa valley in a hot air balloon. Ain't technology great?,)

The balloon ride sounds like a blast! The boys let me sleep all last night. I was really really tired.Bless them. Justin got me up at 0600. I went to bed about 730 pm last night. The sunrise was spectacular this morning. the whole earth is full of Gods glory!
Like I said we covered 167 miles in the last 24 hours. I am happy with 150. The winds are being kind and allowing us a direct line right to Hawaii (for now at least) I will get fresh grib files this morning and see what is coming.If all things remain the same we could make landfall in 12 days. I gotta admit that at times it is a little boring but that feeling doesnt last long. we are all doing well..
Last night we had a couple of micro bursts of wind @ 30 knots! that was .......eventful. Oscar is holding course well though and no harm done

Sounds like a peaceful day for the crew of the Gallivant -- good winds, but not much in the way of sea life or issues (happy for the latter at least!)
I'm grateful for the check-in, and am happy that John says they're just hanging out listening to Louis L'Amour audio books :)

The boys had a real treat last night ... When the moon came up, it was like a thousand sparkling lights coming over the horizon and John actually checked the AIS and radar to be sure it wasn't another cruise ship! It was glorious, he tells me :)
Justin has been fishing - not getting, but did have some more bites. Hoping he's able to catch & chow down on something from the deep blue sea soon!
John says they made 166 miles yesterday, and it sounds like they'll catch the trade winds in the next two days making more of a direct line to Hilo.
They've got following seas now and should make good time!
