After sustaining wind gusts of 40 knots off Grand Piton, we decided to move the boat yesterday! We powered 12 miles north to lovely Marigot Bay, one that James Michener has dubbed 'one of the prettiest in the Caribbean'. We anchored outside, but the winds were so gusty that we actually popped the anchor and succumbed to the nice boat boy and a mooring! There ia a lovely beach and lagoon that we will move into today as it is going to blow, so this will be our 'hang out address' for the next few days. Lots of shore activities, laundry (!) and an opportunity to sort out the boat and clean. Listening on the SSB and talking to Chris Parker, the weather guru, this seems to be what everyone is doing, so I'm sure we will come up with a few more friends. Sounds like Spring has sprung at home, so I'm not feeling so badly telling you all of this! More later...

Here we are anchored under the Great Piton in the national park in St Lucia. It is quite spectacular, not only physically, but when the wind whooshes down the side of the mountain it blows everything off the boat! We have had a super week with David and Lise. Fun time in Rodney Bay, interesting time watching 3 cruise ships maneuver in a small harbor in Castries, but worth it for the education and the delicious dinner at Jacques Restaurant. We then pushed on to the Pitons early in the am to make sure to get a mooring in the Park, which we did right up by the Jalousie Hotel. The snorkeling here is spectacular. Bright, colored fish and beautiful marine life that has been protected so it is very much alive. I've never seen a floourescent blue fish before! Two nice boys bought us a fresh tuna that they had just caught, so dinner was a no brainer, but that would be after a lunch trip to the Laverie resort and Dasheen restaurant. The restaurant is high on the hill with a sp ectacular view of both Pitons from on high. Too bad the food didn't match the view, but you can't have everything! Lise has learned to make T-punches now, so that is our new favorite drink which also cures indigestion from lunch! Today we went way up into the rain forest (19,000 acres of it)for a 4 mile hike/walk. Great vegetation and a wonderful guide who just scratched the surface pointing out the 19 different species of ferns that live there. Back on the boat for swims and naps, tough day!

Here we are in giant Rodney Bay, although the picture is Brad in Trois Ilets, Martinique. Just to confuse you, but we are now back in internet land and can download some pictures, so we play catch up. This is an english speaking country, but most of the locals speak Patois, a mix of French and English. Try to understand that! I'm sure it was invented so no one else knew what they were talking about. We had a brisk sail for 24 miles to St Lucia and anchored just off Pidgeon Island. A pleasant dinner ashore was welcomed by the cook, moi, in a fun beach bar with a jazz band on Sunday night! Chris Doyle, the editor of the cruising guide, was sitting at the next table from us, so you knew the food was going to be good. Monday was greeted with a mix of sun and clouds so we decided to hike up to the fort before it got too hot. This was the main base for the British Navy and you can see why with 360 degree views all the way to Martinique. We had a good explore ashore, great ice cream, and back to the boat for a relaxing evening aboard and a late night playing hari! Tomorrow is another day!
