BRICK HOUSE’S TURN FOR ADVENTURES IN PARADISE

From Majuro, it had been a long difficult trip sailing so many ocean miles south east into the wind. But as we approached the northern most point of the Yasawa group of islands in western Fiji, we gained the protection of land which flattened the seas, increased our boat speed, and made life comfortable. Since a storm somewhere very far to the south was sending long large surf into the western anchorages, we dropped the anchor on the north side of Waya island. On a previous visit we hiked all day on this mountainous island having three village children as our guides. By the end of the day their legs were still springs as ours were stiff logs. From this northern anchorage we revisited a mountain stream and waterfall where we washed ourselves and clothes. We also set up a picture in the waterfall for a waterproof backpack and gear bag for an upcoming article in Blue Water Sailing magazine. It was a fun day. But the goal was to get to Vuda Point Marina where we would haul and paint the bottom of Brick House which had not been tended to for over 3 1/2 years. After a few days on Waya and a few more in Lautoka satisfying our urge for Indian food, fruits, and hardware store browsing, we hauled Brick House out for her turn having an adventure in paradise.
