Just a quick note to let you know we arrived to Davao in the Philippines. Slow peaceful sail here, caught a few fish - Lily loves sushi more than we do! We had just enough wind, and up to 3 knots of currents pushing us along! We made a couple of nice stops in the Davao gulf along the way with some cool new visions. The bangkas- the local fishing boats- here are amazingly colorful and exotic looking. At night in one anchorage, we saw them fishing with bright underwater lights to attract the fish, as far as the eye could see. We are NOT in the Pacific anymore!
We undramatically limped in to the Holiday Oceanview Marina with 3 broken transmission bolts ( and hence no power forward or aft) the last 1/4 mile ( what luck is that!?). We have new titanium bolts from Allied Titanium coming already!
We have been, by scooter, colorful jeepneys, motorbikes, ferries and other modes of transportation now for several weeks exploring the island of Samal and the big city of Davao. The boat work, the social festivities at the marina, and getting acclimated have somehow already consumed almost a month!
Next week we leave to Cairns, Australia ( by plane) for 3 1/2 weeks to see the land that our boat and Lily are too expensive to take with us.
We will write more about it all later- but thought you would want to know, we have arrived safely in SE ASIA! Goodbye Pacific! Hello strange new world!
