01 February 2012 | Great Exuma
We had been waiting for weather to allow us to continue on and after 4 days of winds SE at 20 knots it finally calmed down to 12 knots so we could get out of the entrance to Emerald Bay Marina. The entrance channel opens directly into the ocean with breaking waves across the entrance in anything over 15 knots. We did have a great time at the marina catching up with some friends from last year. We rented a car to tour the island while here and enjoyed seeing Great Exuma from a different perspective. We had lunch of cracked Lobster at Santana’s a little beach bar on the very southern tip of Great Exuma and stopped in Georgetown to get fresh veggies at Exuma Market. They had plenty of fresh produce as it was too windy for the 200 boats in Georgetown to get across the harbor.

Vessel Name: Brio
Vessel Make/Model: PDQ Altair
Hailing Port: Easton, MD
Crew: Greg, Maggie
About: Greg and Maggie along with their trusty golden retriever Holly (RIP 2010) have taken off for a small sabbatical to cruise the intracoastal waterway to Florida and the Bahamas. They did this 15 years ago and couldn't wait to do it again...and again...and again.
Extra: Brio is a PDQ Altair (32 ft.) Catamaran. The name is Italian as in the musical notaion "con brio: to play music with enthusiasm and vigor". Although small, Brio has been a wonderful boat for the Chesapeake and now for our new adventures.
