We are glad we returned to the Raggeds as it is really beautiful here. When we left a month or so ago there were about 20 boats in the 100 miles of this chain of islands, now there are only 2 or 3 boats in the entire area. We have these beautiful anchorages all to ourselves but within radio range we can connect with the few remaining souls here if we have the need. We are currently anchored at Raccoon Cay and having a great time swimming, snorkeling and fishing. In a few days we’ll go a little further south to Hog Cay and catch up with a couple of boats that are still in the area.

Back at the boat in George Town. The supply boat arrived and we got all our provisions for our next adventure. Our plans were to go to the Crooked/Acklins Island group that is 120 miles farther east from our present location but the weather doesn’t always agree with our plans. The winds will be east at 10-20 knots for at least 7-10 days making it impossible to go in that direction. We could wait around in George Town for the right weather window but we are itchy to get back out so we decide to go south back to the Ragged Islands since we can go south in the prevailing easterlies.

The weather at home has been wonderful, we forgot how pretty spring can be on the Chesapeake especially when the weather is warm and sunny. The daffodils bloomed and the cherry blossoms were out in full force. It was great to be back at work all refreshed and see our friends. Before we could turn around our return date to go back to the boat was here and we left with excitement but also regretting we would miss the rest of the spring with everyone.

We last left you on our arrival at George Town after spending three wonderful weeks in the Ragged Islands. The winds were really blowing so we hung out in an area called Red Shanks that is close to George Town but very protected. After some moderation in the wind we picked up a mooring in one of the “hurricane holes” on Stocking Island and flew home to work a little and play a little.

The picture above is our wind instrument showing sustained 34 + knots, actually the winds had gusts much higher. Our anchor held like a champ and we relaxed aboard doing chores and reading books.

Well our time in the Ragged Islands/Jumento's had to come to an end. We would have liked to stay another week but the weather will be unfavorable for at least 7-10 days and if we don't go now will risk missing our flight home. (we're leaving our boat on a mooring and flying home for a month). We had an exciting sail today from Water Cay in the northern Jumento's to Georgetown, about 42 nautical miles, with SE winds at 18 knots. Our course was ENE giving us a nice reach and moderate beam seas. We hated to leave but glad for a great sail back. Thanks to s/v Cat Tales for taking our picture during the sail.

The sharks love the cruising boats since they clean their catch and the sharks get the leftovers. For some reason in Double Breasted Cay the sharks are everywhere. They don't seem to bother you when in the water but I don't want to push my luck.
