Palm Coast Resort Marina

23 November 2011
It rained overnight last night and much of the morning. Finally it stopped so that we could get underway about 11 am. We noticed several clearly abandoned sailboats anchored alongside the ICW in two spots shortly after leaving St. Augustine. The scenery as we continued south from Saint Augustine alternated between nice rural rivers and land cuts and canals with houses lining both sides. The tide was unusually strong against us today. We were motoring into an average 2.5 mph adverse current. While we were going 8.8 mph over water that meant only 6.3 mph over ground because the water we were traveling in was going the other way at the same time. It was a good thing we only planned to cover 25 miles. We are docked in the Palm Coast Resort Marina tonight. The picture above is the view of the condo building across the ICW from us. This is a very nice friendly place, and we were invited to the Thanksgiving day party at noon tomorrow while on our way to check in at the office. However, we’ve decided to keep moving and plan to have Thanksgiving dinner on the boat in Halifax Harbor Marina in Daytona tomorrow. The Captain.
I am constantly amazed at how friendly people are. We had no sooner arrived here than were invited to dinner. Later we learned the history of the area from someone else on the dock and soon after met a man from Germany who is on his way to Cuba. He told us he is going there because he’s never seen it before. This trip really is fascinating! The Admiral
