Sunday morning and George took our somewhat relible dinghy to the wharf by Tiputa pass. The little store here made arrangements with a friend to drive him to Avatoru, the only gas station around. We tried to do it yesterday but early in the morning a cruise ship pulled in!! Figures. The whole atoll was on tourist money alert and prices went way up! Hawkers were out pushing dive trips, boat rides, booths were all over the dock selling everything under the sun, very festive. But knocked our plans all to hell and back. So we just watched the show. Sunday everything is closed except for the gas station and it is only open for a couple of hours, George left at 6:45 this morning. He is also getting some gas for the outboard as we are on fumes, then bright and early, like sun up, we'll dinghy in with one of the empty 6 gallon cans, and hitch hike to "town". Grap some fill in items at the store, fill the gas can, head back to the boat and wait for slack water in the pass at Tiputa, th en head for the equator. The weather files show east to southeast winds for the next week at 10 to 20 kts, so should be a quick trip.
