Day 1 to the Marquesas, French Polynesia
21 March 2012 | Offshore from Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico
The first 24 hours at sea we made 133 nautical miles...only 2,481 to go. Mike and Karen on the sailboat 'Chapter Two' are 20 miles behind us and we are in VHF radio contact. Our mates on 'Picara' haven't left Frailles yet so they will be a week or so behind us. The wind is forecast to die soon...we chose to sail offshore, they chose to stay on the Baja until the wind fills in again. Once we left the Cabo Falso area at the tip of the Baja Peninsula the confused seas moderated and we had a nice sail making 6-7 knots in 15 knots of WNW wind. The passing swell was quite lumpy and about 7' at 8 seconds so it was also pretty rolly out here. Not a place to be if you tend to get seasick. Luckily neither Don nor I have that problem. Well I was 'seasick' once but it was probably due to the amount of tequila we consumed the night before :) All is well on board. PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our good friend Lindsay Thorpe in Otaki, New Zealand and a big hello to all our friends that are there helping him celebrate his big 50th! Wish we were there!
