Don & Deb's Big Adventure on Buena Vista
On our way to the South Pacific and beyond...
Here's Noelle
12/08/2011, Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico

This is my gorgeous niece Noelle. She's 9. I'm so glad I got to spend alot of time with her on this trip. She's a very talented and artistic girl. She loves to play piano and do arts and crafts projects. One day we decorated this gingerbread house together. She was the master designer and I controlled the frosting. It was my first time and I was a bit nervous but she said it's OK cause she's been doing it for quite a few years now. It looked so nice for awhile...then munchkins started coming out of the woodwork and enjoying it when nobody was looking. A very yummy project.

Back At The Ranch

Here's the beautiful view from Alex and Nancy's back patio. If you look closely there's a cruise ship just moving out of the frame on the left hand side. We sat here in the afternoons and relaxed and watched humpback whales breaching right down there. It's an incredible spot and we love to spend time here. Every so often a sailboat will sail into view in the distance to the right, sailing south as we did aboard Buena Vista two years ago. It was one of my life's greatest thrills when we rounded the corner at Cabo Falso and sailed into the harbor at Cabo San Lucas. Every time I see a sailboat out there I feel really happy and excited for those sailors just arriving. I know they're having the time of their lives just like we did.

I see from this photo that he's ready a book...this is before he started stealing my kindle.

I Think He Liked Me
12/06/2011, Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico

So Don and I, we wanted to get close to that great big humongous sailboat in the marina and check it out. Of course you have to have a gate key to get in so we nonchalantly walked back and forth in front of the gate until this good looking dude walked toward it with key in hand. We walked up behind him and he turned to me and said, "So, are you waiting for me?" I looked up and smiled and said, 'Why yes, gorgeous, I've been waiting for you my whole life." no no no, I didn't say that although it would have been fun. We admitted that we wanted to see the big beautiful sailboat and he happily let us in. We walked together, the three of us down the dock toward the most impressive lineup of boats I have ever seen. We had a pleasant conversation and I know if I was alone he would have invited me aboard his yacht, Tortuga, the big shiny beautiful sexy one that was parked very close to the sailboat we had been eyeing. But alas, I'm married, so I had to act like I wasn't interested.

Cabo - Boy Have You Changed!
12/06/2011, Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico

I first visited Cabo in 1979 I think. I stayed at the Finisterrra Hotel. This picture is taken from up on the hill where the old Finisterra still stands. The view sure has changed though. Back then it was just a big shallow body of water, really muddy all around. The Hacienda Hotel was way over on the other side and to the far right. To walk there you had to go all the way around to the left, past the little town with cobblestone streets, past the Giggling Marlin Bar and way over across the other side. A taxi was a much easier way to get to the beach but those guys were crazy drivers and the streets weren't so good back then either. Now, the marina is full of immaculate sportsfishing boats and ultra-luxury yachts from all around the world. For a boat like Buena Vista to dock for the night you're talking $150-$200. That big pool at the bottom of the shot is the Dophin Arena. From here we were able to watch the show from above for free.

On the Wall at Siesta Suites

I took this photo of a bull dorado just as Don was pulling it aboard this summer in the Northern Sea of Cortez. We enlarged the photo and hung it up on the wall at the hotel Siesta Suites. There's also a photo of Buena Vista sailing with her spinnaker flying. Stop by and see it sometime.

This has got to be the smallest commercial rental property in the world!

Siesta Suites is Alex's Baby
12/05/2011, Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico

My brother in law Alex moved to Cabo in the late 70's. He bought a palapa home, fixed it up and sold it. He then bought a bigger one and did the same thing, again and again. Over the years this talented guy has parlayed his way to owning this great little hotel in downtown Cabo as well as a beautiful home overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The hotel is called Siesta Suites and it's right in the center of town, down the street from the well known club Cabo Wabo. They've got 25 rooms, all mini suites with kitchenettes and a garden atmosphere. Nice Job Alex! and thanks for the hospitality you and Nancy have always shown to your guests and to us.
