Thanks for The Memories La Paz!
14 March 2012 | La Paz, Baja, Mexico
Our last days in the city of La Paz were full of activity - a final flurry of boat jobs all coming together at the same time. We (and the other puddle jumpers around Don Jose Marina) had lots of help from the 'locals' and this time I mean the retired ex-pat Americans who live on their boats here in La Paz. Bob from 'Amiga' helped Don mount our mast steps (so we can climb up off the deck and easily view coral heads in the atolls of the Tuamotus). Bruce from 'Ruby' hoisted Don to the top of the mast so he could replace the windex that the frigate bird broke. Alex from 'Maitairoa' helped Deb pick the choicest meats and carnitas at the butcher and also gave great advice and help whenever we needed it. Bill on 'Wandering Puffin' took seven of us in his huge van to the local farmer's market for our final provisioning of fruit and veggies. We bought huge bags of onions, potatoes, grapefruit, oranges, cabbages, and lots of other stuff in bulk and then divided it up between us. I also want to mention the general cameraderie we felt with others on the dock, old friends from our time spent with them this last summer in the Northern Sea...Casey and Annie on 'V'ger'...Ethan, Nancy and Zeda on 'Eyoni'...Marcia and David on 'Juniata'...Bruce on 'Ruby' and new friends who made our stay so enjoyable like Dario on 'Ballena' (who patiently took me to Sam's Club repeatedly). This group threw us (Buena Vista and our mates on 'Picara') a wonderful dock party the night before, with pizza delivered and great snacks made by the cruisers. Also the girls on Eyonie made us a lovely cake. Thank you so much, we had a great time. As we shoved off the dock for the last time all of them were there helping us and waving goodbye. All people we will try to stay in touch with and hopefully see again one day. Good luck to you all.
