Wow, it has been 5 months that we have been in Ixtapa. We thought we would be in Ixtapa just a few days. But troubling engine oil consumption led us to examine the engine, and do a complete overhaul. We have also replaced all the bearings in the transmission. Along the way, we lost a tiny part, a metal screen that filters the oil in the gearbox. I can't believe we lost the thing!! So we had to order a new one from the factory in Japan. It arrived in San Diego yesterday, and we should see it in Ixtapa tomorrow. Once we get that part, we'll be able to reassemble the gearbox, attach it to the engine, and do a sea trial. I can't wait!!!
We have been here so long, we know many of the restaurant waiters and taxi drivers by name, and vice versa. When you get to that point, you know it's time to move along.
Finally, we are nearly ready to depart. I think (pray) we'll be able to set sail within a week!
Next port of call will be Acapulco. After that, Huatulco.

We found another hotel in Ixtapa that lets cruisers use their swimming pool facilities (as long as you patronize the restaurant/bar)... the Hotel Dorado Pacifico. The boys (that includes Bruce) love the two huge water slides.

We had a nice lunch in Zihuatanejo on Easter Sunday. The holiday is a big deal in Mexico, with lots of decorations and festivals.
Here Antoine rides his scooter along the waterfront.

Yesterday the rebuilt engine was delivered by panga to our boat. This time the engine was quite a bit heavier since it was fully assembled. In the photo we're hoisting the engine out of the panga (using our boom and winches) before swinging it over our boat and lowering it down the companionway.
We got the engine running and are letting it idle for a 10 hour break-in period.
