We left Santa Barbara harbor this morning at about 7 am this morning. We're on our way to Catalina island right now; we had to motor until about 3PM but then the wind picked up and we're now doing a broad reach in 15 knots of wind under genoa. Boat speed is a pretty good 7.5 knots. At this rate our ETA at Catalina Island is predicted to be about 9:00 PM.
Last night we went with John's friend Will, who is an underwater photographer, for a slide show exposition at Petrini's, a nice little Italian restaurant in Santa Barbara. The slides were fantastic. Will also lent us fishing gear and gave us lots of advice. We put two lures in the water, and lost one when it snagged some kelp. No bites yet on the other lure. Will did mention that we'd need lots of lures!
