Last night the half moon illuminated the late evening seas. After having had a new moon and thin crescent the last several nights, it is nice to be able to see the water at night. The winds are very light, so we're running the motor along with the sails to help keep our speed up above 5 knots.
It was pizza night; I made two pizzas topped with sausage and onions and anchovies on half. Antoine and I like the anchovies!
Antoine made this sketch of the moonlit night before going to bed.

After sailing all night at 8 knots, we sailed 152 miles in the last 24 hours. Now the winds are very light, less than 4 knots. We are managing to make the boat sail at 3 knots or so. If this keeps up, we will start motoring in the evening.
The very light winds are a welcome change. We are getting a little rest and taking care of some projects on board.

The stars fill the sky on this moonless night. One could not ask for better sailing. The winds are 12 knots, and we are on a close reach with the apparent wind angle about 40 degrees off the bow. We have 100% of the jib out and about 75% of the mainsail. The boat is heeled about 10 degrees. The night time air is balmy. This is some of the nicest sailing I have ever seen.
The waves and swell are less than a meter; the breeze propels us at 7.5 to 8 knots. There is no sound except the rush of water against the hull and the staccato whistle of the wind generator.

We saw a number of squalls this evening, some of which pack a punch with strong winds. Most of them, we manage to avoid. This one passed in front of us in a westerly direction.
