06/09/2007, Isla San Francisco
We left La Paz yesterday about noon, and motored north in a flat calm, toward an anchorage called "The Hook" at the south end of Isla San Francisco. In the afternoon the winds built up to about 10 knots on a close reach so we raised the sails.
We dropped anchor about 7PM, put the dinghy in the water, an took the boys to the beach. Isla San Francisco is a excellent place for beachcombing, the sea shells are abundant.
This morning we woke up to find large bottlenose dolphins swimming around our boat. We had a leisurely breakfast of huevos rancheros. Later today we'll hike to the top of the small island, we heard there's an excellent view.

We're leaving La Paz today and sailing north into the Sea of Cortez. We'll probably sail first to an anchorage called "the hook" on Isla San Francisco.
We'll be at anchor for the most part during the coming month in some of the remotest parts of the Baja peninsula. I'll be updating the blog via Single Sideband Radio along the way.

Antoine does his math homework aboard Calou.
Home learning is a challenge aboard a boat, but we have adapted to it. The boys do less work when we're at sea and more when we're in port.
While we're sailing, they are studying the basics--math, English, spelling, and science. (And of course there's the Spanish, social studies, and natural sciences they're learning as a result of the cruising life in Mexico).
When we return to land-based living, we'll resume their usual curiculum.

Here's a video of our sail from Los Muertos to La Paz.

The second night on anchor at Los Muertos was like the first, the Coromuel winds came in at around 10 PM and blew 25 knots all night until dawn when it moderated to a light breeze.
We raised anchor around 9:30 a.m. and motorsailed all the way to La Paz. The winds were about 8 to 10 knots, mostly on a close reach close hauled. It was a pleasant day on the water, the engine running notwithstanding.
We arrived at Marina Costa Baja in La Paz at about 6 PM, tied up at the dock, and had a nice dinner at one of the restaurants that surround the marina.
It's cooler here in La Paz, the temperatures were in the 50s late at night, we had to sleep with blankets for the first time.
