Second Day at Tenacatita
25 January 2009
This morning we rode the dinghy up the estuary at Tenacatita; this is a wonderful 2-hour trip through a mangrove jungle. Along the way we saw exotic birds, crocodiles, and some kind of strange primate or marsupial with a long prehensile tail. We're not sure what it was. The jungle trip ended up at a beach where we spent a few hours snorkeling, then had lunch at a palapa restaurant on the beach. Lunch was the local specialty: fish filet stuffed with 'mariscos', being a combination of shrimp, squid, octopus, and scallop.
After that we returned to the main beach at Tenacatita, where we played bocce ball with some other cruisers on the beach. As the sun set, we returned to Calou for dinner. One of the cruisers, Archie from Sea-tacean, loaned us a DVD movie called McHale's Navy. It's a military comedy set in the Caribbean... except that the movie was filmed right here in Tenecatita Bay. So if you're reading this, and you want to see what Tenacatita is like, you could rent this movie. Hey, it even has Ernest Borgnine, from the original TV series!
