We drove east from Colima to see this active volcano, which has an eruption on the average about every ten days. When that happens, the flow of ash can exceed speeds of 100 km per hour. You don't want to be on the slopes of this volcano when that happens!

We visited Aztec ruins at near the village of Chanal. This was the fifth ruin in the area, hence it is called Chanal #5.
All seriousness aside, the structure in the photo was used for human sacrifice. The victims were taken to this mound, where there hearts were cut out as offerings to the Aztec gods.

Here we are in front Hotel Ceballos, located right on the town square in the historic colonial city of Colima. It looks like many European cities. The cathedral on the square was built in the 16th century.

We arrived at our hotel in Colima, and then drove out to a nearby town of Comala. It was a hot afternoon, so we stopped for a beer at this restaurant in Comala.
Little did we know, the restaurants have the tradition of providing you with abundant free (and delicious) food if you just order a drink. No sooner than our beer arrived, than our table was filled with four huge plates of appetizers. Boy we were stuffed!

This boat, INTREPID, showed up in the marina near us. Its captain, Zack, just 17 years old, has nearly completed a singlehanded circumnavigation. I think he's going to set the record for the youngest person to do so. It was great to meet Zack.

I just uploaded new photos to our photo gallery.
We're planning to leave the boat here in Barra for the summer hurricane season. We'll fly home in July and return in mid October, to continue our voyage south come November 1 when the hurricane season officially ends.
Meanwhile life aboard Calou here in Barra is very enjoyable, so we don't mind staying here for a while.

We're staying through then end of June and into July, so we'll certainly see the change of seasons (from winter/dry season to summer/rainy season). I'm looking forward to it.
Bizzzzzzz !
Along with some friends, we took a water taxi from the marina into Barra de Navidad, to hear some music at Piper's Cruiser Lounge, an open-air palapa bar on the beach in Barra. I don't know the name of the band, but the guitar player sounded like Jimi Hendrix, and looked like the Geico Cave Man.

Video of our sail from Barra de Navidad south to Manzanillo, where we enjoyed excellent blackberry margaritas.

You know what the water is like on the coast of Oregon.
But it is never warm like that down there!
Wonderful video.
