A day for the boat and us

27 June 2013 | Riposto, Marina d’ell Etna
Marty/sunny, HOT!!! & not a breath of wind
Monday, June 17, 2013

We departed the mooring at Taormina Bay at 0910 under power once again. No wind and HOT. We tied up at Riposto at Marina D’ell Etna at 1030 after going 8 miles.

We took advantage of the laundry service at the marina. The price made us feel like we were “taken advantage of.” The marina charges for two nights were €182 which included water, power, very nice shower facilities, fast wifi and a 21% VAT (€31.59)! I’m guessing that the rates will be even higher in July and August.

We put the connector up between the dodger and the bimini and took the side panels off the dodger. This created as much shade and breeze as possible and still it was 95°F in the shade on deck. It isn’t even July yet!

Paul arranged for an excursion to Mount Etna for tomorrow and Jon & I did a little grocery shopping. This area had a lot of volcanic ash when Mt Etna erupted in April. The streets are filled with huge piles of ash waiting to be cleaned up. Apparently the trash removal people are on strike. Paul spoke with a man from London who kept his boat here over the winter. He has a lot of ash in his winches.
